CR-GOVERNMENT Expresses Gratitude to UNICEF Nigeria for all-around Support

The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu has expressed unwavering gratitude to UNICEF Nigeria for all-around support to the State in areas like Education, Social Protection, Policies  Development, Economic Plan Development and Nutrition, etc.

The Governor represented by the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer  Cross River State Planning Commission Pastor Dr. Bong Duke made the assertion while addressing both Planning Research and Statistics and Monitoring and Evaluation officers at a capacity building workshop organized by the Cross River State Planning Commission in collaboration with UNICEF Nigeria held at Dannic Hotel Ekorinim Calabar. 
He acknowledged that UNICEF Nigeria has supported the State Government in the production of the State Development Plan 2024-2033 as a development mechanism which aligned with global and national strategic documents such as Sustainable Development Goals, Human Capital Development Vision 2030 and the National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan with a vision to make Cross River a State thriving, inclusive and sustainable economy, promoted by good governance to foster human dignity in a clean and green environment by 2033. 

Some of the topics crafted for the 3 day capacity building workshop includes objectives and expected outcomes, overview of the Cross River State Development Plan 2024-2033, the results framework, results based implementation- implementing the SDP and developing the monitoring Plan. Others were Review and validation of M&E policy and results based reporting, etc.

Highlights of the workshop were technical sessions on results based implementation, Developing the Monitoring Plan, Daily recaps, questions and answers and clusters groups assignments. 
Dignitaries in attendance were the UNICEF Enugu field office represented by Dr. Mrs. Maureen Zubie Okolo and Dr. Victor Chima who also served as facilitators while the State Statistician General Dr Josephat Ogar, the SPC Permanent Secretary Mr. Kingsley Ndem Eyibio, the immediate pass SPC Perm Sect, Mrs Nbong Ausaji, PRS and Monitoring and Evaluation officers, Heads of Departments and Directors from different MDAs were fully in attendance. 

Nutrition Will be Part of Our Action Plans - Chairman CRS Carnival Commission

The Chairman CRS Carnival Commission Dr. Gab Onah has expressed the readiness of the commission to make Nutrition a viable component of their action plans going forward through advocacy with relevant stakeholders given the mutual benefits proper planning and development of the sector can bring to the human family in general.

The chairman stated this during advocacy visit to his office at West Africa Fabrication Academy building Calabar by members of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition. 

The chairman informed that CR-Carnival Commission is seriously involved in research on all aspects of it's Programmes or activities of the commission in relations to why people want to visit Calabar, their age bracket and what the State benefit from their visit while working out modalities to present the Carnival fresh every year.

Speaking on the friendly environment the State is blessed with, Mr Onah expressed mix feelings that a lot of Cross Riverians don't understand and appreciate the good oxygen nature bequet to the State which can not be found commonly. 

On the challenges of the time, Mr. Onah affirmed that Youth are not much interested in politics but music, football, Arts and ICT which offers them freedom, high sense of satisfaction and space to express their passions and used the visit to commend the management of the State planning Commission. 
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary SPC and chairman State Committee on Food Nutrition Mr Kingsley Ndem Eyibio expressed gratitude to the chairman and Management Staff of the State Carnival Commission for granting the team audience despite their tight schedules and called for collaboration between the two commissions to enable them learn more from each for the benefit of the State.

Highlights of the visit was a brief PowerPoint presentation by the State Nutrition Officer Mrs. Nkem Eyong Ubana who navigated the audience through the multidimensional nature of nutrition, immediate causes, underlying and basic causes of malnutrition in children age under 5 and adults. She used the medium to solicit synergy with Carnival Commission for possible Link to private sector players for the purpose of funding Nutrition interventions as Government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.

while stating in clear terms some key challenges in the sector to include few partners  supporting Nutrition activities or programme and few professionals hands. 

Other highlights was questions and from Staff of the Carnival Commission, while Mr James Bullem Commission member 2 and Head of Planning Research and Statistics and Barr. Oyama Ndifon expressed satisfaction on the answers elicited from their questions.
In attendance were the State Statistician General Dr. Josephat Ogar and all members of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition.
In a related development, the State Committee on Food and Nutrition also visited the World Health Organization Cross River State Office at State housing estate Calabar still on advocacy visit where the W.H.O. State Coordinator Dr. Mrs. Rebecca Yewande Olatunde expressed the willingness W.H.O. to support SCFN efforts through policy and manpower development after listening to presentation made by the State Nutrition Officer Mrs. Nkem Eyong Ubana. While in attendance were the chairman SCFN and Permanent Secretary SPC Mr. Kingsley Ndem Eyibio and all members of the SCFN.

If you don't Protect your Environment, You are the one to suffer the Consequences-CRS Agric Commissioner

The Commissioner Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Ebokpo has reiterated the need for Cross Riverians to protect their environment from harmful practices especially the areas use for economic or farming activities as lives and good health depend so much on the environment. 

The Commissioner affirmed this during the distribution of Aquaculture kits and energy efficient cooking stoves to beneficiaries at the Calabar Municipal Council Secretariat Complex, Calabar. He informed that there are reasons for the support which includes to enable the communities restore the Mangrove and nature based livelihood to minimize pressure on the Mangroves ecosystem while advising the beneficiaries not to sale the items given to them.

According to the Commissioner, the waste product from the energy efficient cooking stoves has over 100% economic and commercial value and is also in high demand, adding that, Cross River State is among the few areas with Mangrove ecology.
He used the occasion to called on Cross Riverians to support and pray for the administration of His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu as he mean well for the State while commending Food and Agriculture Organization FAO for their consistency in  supporting the State development.

Earlier the FAO team lead Nifesimi Ogunkua gave the project overview by chronicling the journey so far from 2023 stating that Cross River State is blessed with large forest full of diversities that is also well utilize but what is required or lacking is putting the forest in to sustainable used hence the interventions in training and the provisions of essential support to farming communities within the Mangrove forest zone. 


She said there is going to be a follow up on how the items are put to use and manage while assuring that if the materials are put to effective use more support will come through and will reach more people.

She informed that 25 communities had been supported with fish processing oven, while 50 communities will benefit the efficient cooking stoves, adding that, a Mangrove restoration demonstration centre has been established with progress reports indicating positive development.

Adding his voice, the Mayor of Calabar Municipal Apostle RT. Hon. James Anam represented by the Council secretary, Comr. Iso Bassey Edim called on the beneficiaries not to sale the products and equipments given to them stating that Nigeria was known as the giant of Africa through agriculture not population and appreciated FAO for their concern and support to the farming communities.

Speaking on the significance of the support given to the State by international bodies through FAO, the chairman of the State Forestry Commission, Rt. Hon. George O'ben-Etchi acknowledged that there is hunger in the land hence the efforts of Government to create environments for partners to operate mutually and to bring relief to majority that are in need.  He appeared to beneficiaries not to see the materials given to them as government thing but to put them in good use.

Highlights of the event was presentation of fish feed and energy efficient cooking stoves to beneficiaries by Government officials and stakeholders.

Chairman, Abi LGA Extends Felicitations to Pastor. Hon. Joshua Igboke on his birthday, describe him as a man of Vision and Integrity

That his integrity, humility, and service-driven approach have left an indelible mark on the political and social landscape of ABI LGA.
