The Executive Chairman of Abi Local Government Council, Hon. Egbala Bassey has affirmed the sacrifices made by fallen Heroes and these alive as the corner stone of the peace Nigeria enjoy as a country. The chairman disclosed this as he led a solemn and impactful commemoration of the 2025 Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day Anniversary held at the Council Secretariat, Itigidi Abi Local Government Area.

The chairman lauded the bravery and sacrifices of Nigeria’s armed forces, both past and present, who fought gallantly during the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, internal upraising and international peacekeeping missions. 

The Chairman acknowledged the immeasurable contributions of military personnel who paid the ultimate price while some sustained life-altering injuries defending Nigeria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. 

In his words, "We stand here today because of their courage and dedication to our nation’s peace and stability,” 

Demonstrating support for the welfare of veterans and their families, the Chairman made a cash donation to the Nigerian Legion, Abi LGA chapter, and assured the legionnaires of the Council’s unwavering commitment to meeting their needs. He further pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to strengthen the security architecture within the local government.

Hon. Egbala charged security personnel to remain steadfast in their duty to safeguard lives and properties while promising that his administration will maintain an open door and strong partnership with service personnel to foster continuous peace and development across Abi LGA.

The Council’s leadership expressed heartfelt gratitude to all security agencies and personnel for their selfless service and reiterated its support in enhancing the region's security framework.

This commemorative event serves as a reminder of the enduring responsibility to honor, support, and collaborate with Nigeria’s military forces as guardians of the nation's peace and security.

The Federal Government’s designation of January 15 to honor these heroes underscores their invaluable service and enduring legacy. 

The event, held to honor Nigeria’s fallen heroes and active service members, drew notable dignitaries, security personnel, traditional rulers, political stakeholders, and community representatives.
