As part of a strategic response to infrastructural decay and mobility disruption, earlier today, Tuesday, 7th July 2025, the Executive Chairman of Abi Local Government Council, Hon. Egbala Bassey, formally mobilized contractors to commence the total and comprehensive rehabilitation of the failed portion of the Federal Highway along Ugep–Ediba section. The flagged section, which has suffered progressive subgrade failure and surface disintegration due to hydrological stress, will undergo full pavement reconstruction, drainage realignment, and slope stabilization.
This intervention, approved under an emergency infrastructure response framework, aims to restore critical connectivity and ensure commuter safety ahead of peak rainfall. While performing the symbolic groundbreaking at the project site, Hon. Bassey charged the contractors to adhere to strict engineering timelines and standards, with project delivery expected before the close of the rainy season.
This high-impact intervention reinforces the Council’s commitment to infrastructure resilience, rural accessibility, and proactive governance.
