C'R. Govt. is Committed to Strengthening Planning Systems through Innovation, Digital Transformation and Data-driven Governance - Bong Duke

Certified Statistical data remain a pillar of good governance and premise for results oriented policies and decisions making which the administration of Governor Bassey Otu has demonstrated his belief in best standards for sustainable growth. 

This position was affirmed during a five day capacity building workshop on Data Management, Analysis and Reporting using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) organized by the State Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) held at Adsuit Hotel, Ikot  Effa, off  Parliamentary, Calabar.
The Vice Chairman Chief, Executive Officer Cross River State Planning Commission, Pastor Dr Bong Duke, represented by the Permanent Secretary SPC Mr Kingsley Ndem Eyibio expressed this position when he declared the workshop open, stating that SPSS remain one of the most widely used software package for Statistical analysis across Government, academic institutions, development organizations and the private sector.

He alluded that in today's rapidly changing world, quality data has become one of the most valuable tools for governance, planning, investment decisions, monitoring and evaluation. That the administration of His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu is fully committed to creating the needed environment for strategic growth while appreciating UNFPA for their partnership in the State.

Earlier, the State Statistician General Mrs. Akedoh Okoi Edet expressed her appreciation to the State Governor for his support and UNFPA stating that the workshop marked another important step in collective efforts to strengthen the Statistical system of Cross River State through continuous learning, institutional capacity development and the promotion of evidence based governance.

In her words, in the modern world, data is the foundation of effective planning, informed decisions making, sound policy formulation and sustainable development. However, the true value of data can only be realized when it is properly managed, professionally analyzed and clearly reported. That the workshop was carefully designed to equip participants with practical skills in the use of SPSS as a modern tool for Statistical analysis and reporting.

In an interview with some participants who expressed delights for the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and to learn new trends in data management, while others admitted that the new Statistician General is visionary and is taking proactive measures to build the capacity of staff which will enhance quality and credibility of the State data.
The event draws together relevant Stakeholders from Ministries, Departments and Agencies including non-governmental organizations, Civil Society Organizations and goodwill messages from partners like UNFPA, paper presentations and plenary.
